Abstract

Aim: The aim of the current study was to develop gel based on grape seed oil mediated with silver nanoparticles for the treatment of periodontal diseases

Materials and Methods: Preparation of grape seed oil gel has two stages: Stage 1: Synthesis of silver nanoparticles using grape seed oil; To 1 ml of grape seed oil 10 ml of distilled water is added and to 90 ml of distilled water 1 milli mol of silver nitrate is added both the solution s are mixed together and they are placed over a magnetic stirrer The solution containing silver nanoparticles infused in grape seed oil is subjected to centrifugation to obtain the concentrated solution. The concentrate obtained was subjected for antimicrobial test zone of inhibition assessed for Candida albicans and lactobacillus, toxicity test using brine shrimp eggs, UV spectrometry, and TEM scanning. Stage 2: carbopol was taken in a beaker and dispersed in 50 ml of distilled water after carbopol is dispersed the grape seed oil extract was added under constant stirring until the gel consistency was obtained.

Results: The results for antimicrobial activity show that there is increased antibacterial activity at 100 Mul concentration of the grape seed oil gel, and the antibacterial activity increases as the concentration increases. In the cytotoxicity assay, the degree of lethal toxicity obtained was directly related to the concentration of the oil samples examined. The results show that there was 99% yield. The TEM analysis shows grape seed oil Ag nanoparticle’s surface structure which was spherical and Morphology which was smooth and size ranging from 40- 80 nanometer in size. After assessing all the above properties the gel was prepared as a final product.

Conclusion: Within the limits of the study we were able to successfully synthesise silver nanoparticles and infuse it with grape seed oil and analyse the characteristics of grape seed oil mediated silver nanoparticle gel and found that the synthesised product has antimicrobial properties, non toxic in nature after which the concentrate was made into gel form. Further studies have to be done before using this novel product as gel in patients with periodontal diseases
