Abstract

India has been a storehouse of traditional herbal medicine from ancient times. Long before the advent of modern medicine, herbs were the mainstream remedies for nearly all ailments. They were cheap and had a higher safety margin. ‘Triphala’, a well-known powdered herbal preparation is made by equal parts of Emblica officinalis, Terminalia chebula and Terminalia belerica. Triphala is being extensively researched for its various therapeutic effects including its anti-caries, antioxidant, anti-collagenase and anti-microbial activities. The present review will focus on Triphala and its several uses in dentistry.
