Hand preference is use of right or left hand dominantly. The hand preference idea is that the preferred
hand is used more effectively and skillfully in daily activities. In other words, while the right-handed
people use their right hand more successfully than left-handed ones in daily activities and the lefthanded
people use their left hand more effectively and efficiently than right-handed ones. There is a
common belief that left-handed people are more unskillful. However, success of the boxing, kung fu,
karate, taekwondo, archery, wrestling and soccer players using their left and feet skillfully and the
achievements of the artists and tennis players are likely the best examples proving the invalidity of
this view. According to the findings, female individuals were more successful than the male individuals
in terms of academic success. It was found that left hand preference students had 13% better
academic success than right hand preference students. Furthermore, the athlete students showed
more academic success than the non-athlete at 20.8%.
Generally, left-handed athletes seem to have some innate neurologic superiority for academic
success and performance compared to right-handed athletes.
