Objective: Apocynaceae has been known as a family of traditional plants for thousands of years in
the Ayurvedic, Unani, and Homoeopathic system of medicine. The current research study aims to
elucidate and characterize different bioactive components present in crude ethanolic extract of
Carissa congesta leaves.
Methods: Shade dried leaves of Carissa congesta were powdered and extracted through Soxhlet
extraction using ethanol. Crude extract obtained was utilized for GC-MS.
Results: The GC-MS studies elucidated biologically active components from the extract. Different
forms of chemical entities of high and low molecular weight with differing proportions present in the
extracts were observed. The evaluation took into account retention time, molecular formula, molecular
weight, and MS databases. A total of seven components were identified, some clinically significant
were Oleic acid, squalene, etc. Biologically and pharmacologically, elucidated complements were
valued for their therapeutic importance.
Conclusion: In the future, Carissa congesta leaves can undergo different extraction methodologies
and several elucidated phytoconstituents can be reviewed for their ethnopharmacological significance.
