Abstract

Grief is a normal reaction to a bereavement or other major loss. Its manifestations will vary from
person to person but will often include physical, cognitive, behavioural and emotional elements. For a
close personal bereavement, grief is likely to continue for a long time and may recur in a modified
form, stimulated by anniversaries, future losses or other reminders. People are likely to be changed
by the experience of grieving but most, in time, find that they are able to function well and enjoy life
again
