The present study aimed to define the association between hypertension and obesity collectively on the prevalence of coronary heart disease and coronary risk factors in rural population. A cluster of rural subjects from district Patiala of Punjab (India) were included. 700 subjects of both the sexes of age group 30-70 years comprising 340 men and 360 women were divided into various groups according to their body mass index and blood pressure levels. The data represented that the increase in weight leads to increased risk among hypertensive men and women. The combined effect of obesity and hypertension do help in identifying the subjects at high risk of CHD. The female subjects are at lower risk level than male. Males at each category are at higher risk level than females and need more precautionary measures
