Classroom Activities for Schools & Universities: A Manual for Teachers and Students

The present study aims to determine activities and exercises that can be used in the classroom. Deep and surface learning research studies that identified student approaches to learning first appeared in the mid-1970s and these studies identified the qualitatively different ways that students approach learning. A surface approach to learning is one in which students are motivated by a fear of failure and seeks to meet the demands of the task with minimum. The purpose of this exercise is for students to identify from the beginning what they want to achieve during the semester. This could be improving in their skills, language or even building up their self-confidence. Below is a sample, it can be changed to tasks instead of class. Role-playing activities introduces students to "real-world" situations and enable them to better understand issues and concepts, and it provides an opportunity to interact with peers and to develop critical thinking and decision-making skills. Panel discussions are especially useful when students are asked to give class presentations or reports as a way of including the entire class in the presentation.
Student groups are assigned a topic to research and asked to prepare presentations.
