Abstract

Objective of the study was to determine age and sex wise frequency and distribution ABO and Rh blood group patterns along with Haemoglobin percentage among Government Science College students in Chitradurga, Karnataka and compare with other data from similar studies. Blood is the fluid with haemoglobin that circulates in the body to transport oxygen and nutrients from the lungs and gastrointestinal tract. It carries back carbon dioxide to the lungs and other products of metabolism to the kidneys. It has a role in thermoregulation and distributes hormones along with other agents that are necessary for homeostasis. Determination of blood group and knowledge of the distribution is essential for effective management of blood banks inventory which is utmost important from human health aspect. At present there are 25 types of blood groups are determined. Incompatibility between pregnant women and her embryo may pose difficulties. Some physiological problems are related to blood groups. Anaemia is defined as a low haemoglobin (Hb) level in the blood (less than 130 g/L).The study looked at the distribution of blood types and haemoglobin percentage levels among college students aged 18 to 21. The analysis found that the blood group order was O>A>B>AB, with a high Rh+ factor and an average haemoglobin percentage of 13.4g/dl in males and 11.68g/dl in females in the selected age group.
