Abstract

A column is a load-bearing slender beam. Different characteristics, including as buckling, compression, shear, and tension, affect the failure pattern of a column. Deflection and load carrying capacity are reduced as a result of early defects in a column. The effective length and width of the members are governed by essential technical features such as connectivity and rigidity in order to achieve stability. Numerous extensive investigations were established by the researchers, who covered essential engineering parts with various loading patterns. Further research was done to estimate lateral stiffness, inter-story displacement, and deflected beam form under different loading patterns. The current research focuses on diverse literatures on effective length and regulating parameters that influence structural stability.
