Abstract

Natural electromagnetic radiation from the sun reaches the earth and affects all living beings. It has both beneficial and detrimental effects on living creatures at all levels, starting with subcellular organelles and ending with the entire body. Far infrared radiation reflecting textiles helps in maintaining and improving the efficiency of the wearer. Various techniques can be used to produce far infra red thermal energy reflecting fabrics. To offer these thermal radiation effects, specialised FIR emitting heat lamps and garments comprised of filaments (fibers) loaded with FIR emitting nanoparticles are being employed. The Present chapter describes the basics of Far Infrared Radiations, the use of FIR in textiles, test method, Present status for far infrared reflecting textiles and global market along with future innovations in the field.
